Sunday Bantering: Boston’s Joe Kelly placed on DL with hamstring strain

The Red Sox placed Joe Kelly on the 10-day disabled list disabled list with a hamstring strain yesterday, recalling Brandon Workman from triple-A Pawtucket to take his place on the 25-man roster.

Kelly hadn’t thrown since July 9th and experienced soreness prior to the All-Star break. When he began throwing again on Saturday, Kelly felt the strain and was forced to go on the disabled list.

As a reliever this season, Kelly has collected a 1.49 ERA and 1.63 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 36.1 innings, almost more than he pitched in 2016. Kelly is in his fourth season with Boston.
