SI.com is reporting that the Toronto Blue Jays have traded pitcher minor league pitcher Frank Gailey for Philadelpha Phillies outfielder Ben Francisco. Francisco has been a fringe starting outfielder for much of his career, and has largely served as a fourth outfielder/injury fill-in for the Phillies over the past two years. Frank Gailey figures to be mostly an afterthought in this trade, as he has yet to move past Double-A and will be 26 for the 2012 season.
In 2011 Francisco hit .244 with six home runs in 100 games and 293 plate appearances. Francisco will likely compete with Travis Snider and Eric Thames for playing time in left field next year, and will likely enter some platoon role that sees him in even fewer games in 2012 than he played in 2011.Tags: Baseball, Ben Francisco, Frank Gailey, MLB, Philadelpha Phillies, Toronto, Toronto Blue Jays
